Process Engineer - San Diego

Description:

The Process Engineer is directly responsible for ongoing efforts to continually improve our Coating & Laminating processes, including optimization of all processes within BSF and supplier quality to improve product quality and consistency and minimize manufacturing costs.

Your Role:

-You Review, analyze, and make suggestions for improvement on the following: optimization of line speed and through-puts, optimization of thermal and UV curing conditions, minimization of yield losses, improved change-over, setup and clean-up times, proper tension settings, reduced film shrinkage and heat stress, improved optical clarity, and reduced defect and off-spec conditions.
-You implement process changes to meet the above goals while continually documenting all process changes in appropriate systems.
-You set-up new processes, particularly with respect to projects in the Bekaert Marketing Roadmap process.
-You work with R&D and Manufacturing in generating the work instructions for all new projects as they advance to the Agreement to Test Sales (ATTS) phase.
-You work under the direction of the Director of Process Improvement to bring in new process technology as needed and take the lead on investigating new equipment sources, offering recommendations for equipment purchases.
-You develop statistical process control studies to characterize existing processes; identifies areas in greatest need of improvement.
-You run production and pilot trials, particularly those involving new and modified processes.
-Works with R&D to propose material changes that will improve overall quality and/or reduce costs.
-You remain knowledgeable of state of the art in current and aware of future coating and laminating technology trends.
-You lead process improvement and simple product qualification projects, particularly those with little materials development but significant process development.
-You assist with running production trials as needed.
-You assist with developing process test methods for Manufacturing and QA departments.
-You develop improved work flow methods to improve speed to market.

Your Profile:

-You have a minimum of a Bachelor's of Science degree in Chemical, Materials, or Mechanical Engineering, or Chemistry (Organic or Physical) is required.
-You have prior experience in a process development and/or process engineering environment with preference given for coating is strongly preferred.
-You have outstanding written and oral communication.
-You have excellent organizational skills, specifically aimed at project management environment.
-You have strong mechanical problem-solving skills as well as strong statistical skills.
-You have the ability to work on numerous projects simultaneously and in an independent manner.
-You are a fast learner with strong self-motivation.
-You have the ability to work effectively with people with range of academic, professional and regional backgrounds.
-You are willing to work a flexible schedule to be available for production trials.
-Typical travel level is 10%, but candidate must be willing to travel internationally and for extended (2 weeks) periods when specific needs arise.
