Cost Accountant

Description:

PURPOSE:

Design, implement, monitor, and control product costing information and activity in order to provide a basis for performance and profitability analysis which will be used to enhance plant profitability.

DIMENSIONS:

-Nine plant locations; +300 employees
-Sales volume of $35 million
-Three distinct market segments
-Job shop environments, with multiple manufacturing processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. System Implementation and Development - To act as the project leader on Cost related modules of Symix manufacturing system. The project leader role would include the development and implementation of the related modules, training of appropriate Plant and Division personnel, development of policy, procedures, and work instructions.
2. Standards Development - To assist in the development of material and labor standards along with engineering and plant management. This includes testing, analyzing, and monitoring standards in order to develop an appropriate basis for cost analysis.
3. Performance Measurement - To develop, implement, and monitor performance measurement indices which will help to point out areas of improvement in efficiency and productivity.
4. Product Cost Analysis - To develop methods and systems fro the analysis of profitability by products and product lines in order to evaluate the effectiveness of product offerings in market segments and also to assist in the development of pricing theories and processes.
5. Training and Development - Responsible for training of plant personnel in the computerized manufacturing system as it relates to costing. This would include shop floor reporting (material, labor, scrap and rework) as well as WIP, FG, and inventory management. This training would include not only clerical and hourly personnel, but also plant supervision, plant management, and division management. Training in cost techniques, analysis, and interpretation will be a fundemental part of the development of plant management.
6. Management - This position will be responsible for the integrity of the cost accounting system. The management of the system will primarily be accomplished by the development and implementation of policy, procedures, and work instructions, the training of plant and division personnel in these policies, procedures, and work instructions and the monitoring and auditing of the resulting information derived from the system.
7. Inventory Management and Conrol - Responsible for providing methods and procedures to ensure proper valuation and verification of physical inventories which entails cycle counting, physical inventories, and audits.
8. Outside Services and Processes - Develop a system to control outside service costs and insure proper profitability levels according to developed parameters.
