Process Engineer - Finishing

Description:

SUMMARY OF JOB FUNCTION:

The process engineer is responsible for analyzing and correcting day to day and long term process problems. The area of emphasis will be post production of polyimide film, including the application of laminated and coated fluoropolymers and slitting. The primary goal will be to establish stable operating conditions in the Finishing Area.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Understand the Finishing activities that include:
-Laminating fluoropolymer film to polyimide film.
a)Applying aqueous solutions of fluoropolymers to polyimide film.
b)Slitting the laminated and coated film.
c)Analyze and correct process technical problems.

Use analytical tools as necessary. Possibilities include SPC, Quality Improvement Teams, use of Designed Experiments and other analytical methods.

-Analyze, recommend and execute yield improvement plans.
-Execute capital projects for the Finishing Area as assigned.
-Write operating procedures and technical operating standards.
-Train operators and new technical employees.
-Develop a functional knowledge of the plant process computer control systems sufficient to perform troubleshooting.
-Support the development of new products by executing trials as needed.
-Prepare action plans through direction and team planning with the Production Manager.
-Provide technical support at customers as required.
-Work with R&D group to transition new products from development to commercialization.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Comply with company policies, practices and procedures.
-Participate in pro-active teams to achieve departmental and company goals
-Perform other duties as assigned
-Participate on call duty roster

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
BS in Engineering, Chemical or Mechanical preferred

Experience:
Prior applicable experience in film, or polymers manufacturing. Knowledge and experience with Quality Improvement systems, including SPC and other quality tools.

Computer Skills:
Good skills with basic computer programs, including Word, Excel and Access.

Travel:
As required
